A Church is Born!
Dr. Linda Settles
6/07/25
It’s Pentecost! Happy Birthday Church! We’ve been leading up to this day with a prequel called The Church: The Rock, The Wait, & The Call. You can binge watch it on our website or YouTube! Catch up on previous episodes.
I want you to imagine what it would be like to be given the responsibility and the authority to carry on Jesus’ message, especially to those who had never met Him personally. By now, the small group of disciples had grown to over 100. But Jesus had commissioned them to go to the masses – not just Jerusalem, but Judea, Samaria, to all nations. Where do you begin?
It starts with conception. There’s a phrase: if you can conceive it, you can achieve it. Some of us have book concepts, business concepts, things we dream of in our minds.
Now, we’re familiar with human conception. The sperm unites with the egg and creates a fetus, the beginnings of a baby. In fact, the word conceive means: to cause to begin; to see with the imagination; to take into your mind. All of these things were about to happen to the disciples. The baby is about to be born!
Join us this Sunday for the biggest birthday party ever! Pentecost Sunday! Sermon Title : A Church is Born! And we will receive new members into Green Trails as we celebrate Membership Sunday! And the good news is - it’s not too late if you want to join with this welcoming faith community! Pentecost – Membership Sunday – I can’t wait to see what the Holy Spirit does!

Annual Conference will be held at the St. Charles Convention Center again this year! That means it’s accessible for anyone who wants to go. Visitors are always welcome, in fact, there are visitor sections for anyone who would like to see the greater connection in action! If you have never attended one, please plan on going for a session or two. The dates are June 6-8. For the agenda you can go to: moacinfo.com. You don’t have to register, you can just come in as a visitor. This year, the Annual Conference will vote on several constitutional amendments pertaining to regionalization, gender inclusiveness, racial justice, and clergy voting rights. I encourage you to take a peek at over one thousand UMs gathered in worship, prayer, and the business of the Church!

What stood out the most during our tour was how Dutch cultural heritage continues to influence art, fashion, and design while staying grounded in traditional values.
