Pastor Linda's Weekly Blog: Who are you wearing?

Designer Original

I used to love watching award shows like the Grammys or the Oscars. But what I loved most was watching the pre-show, the red-carpet interviews. I was fascinated by the beautiful outfits, jewelry, the way the stars waltzed down the carpet. It was something for my teenage eyes to behold!

Inevitably, the interviewer would ask the celebrities the same question: Who are you wearing? An odd sounding question, right? Not what are you wearing, but who are you wearing? What the interviewer meant was who made the outfit, who was the designer?

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works,

which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Ephesians 2:10, NIV

God created us so that we could be creative! You are a Designer Original, God’s masterpiece – a piece of the Master, and there’s no limit to your creativity. We are a chip off the old block, a pen in the hand of the Author and Finisher of our faith, Jesus. A tool in the hands of the Master Builder, an instrument under the direction of the Great Maestro. And God wants us to make beautiful music with Him! If we can put a man on the moon, surely we can do great things for God. After all, you’re a Designer Original!

Have you ever had someone tell you that you remind them of someone? I wrote the poem below for my aunt when she did an Emmaus walk years ago. It still rings true today of her, my mother, and many others I have met along the way. I pray that it blesses you too because you remind me of someone!

You Remind Me of Someone

(Written by Rev. Dr. Linda Settles, Copyright 1998)

You remind me of someone - Someone who's kind and caring,

Gentle, yet strong; mighty in stature, yet humble in demeanor;

Sure to correct, but sure to encourage;

You remind me of someone.

You remind me of someone - Someone who turns challenge into adventure;

Who sees temptation as a piece of exercise equipment in the spa of life;

Someone whose faith is like a muscle –

Stretching and toning each sinew into Olympic form;

You remind me of someone.

You remind me of someone - Someone whose joy is in the

Victories of others; and whose victories bring others joy.

Someone who tends their garden diligently,

But finds beauty in the weeds;

Who looks at a baby bird and sees an eagle.

Someone who cries at the birth of a baby or the death of a sparrow;

You remind me of someone.

You remind me of a great mother, aunt, sister, friend ...

You remind me of God.

Blessings,

Pastor Linda
