Dr. Linda Settles
This Sunday, we will culminate our year-long celebration of fifty-five years of worship at the UMC of Green Trails! Fifty-five years ago, a handful of people, with the backing of the conference, planted a seed of faith in the heart of Chesterfield, MO. First, worshiping in a school, then building a church that has been filled with amazing worship, baptisms, weddings, funerals, and countless church dinners!
Over the years, pastors have come and pastors have gone. Members have come and members have gone. But through it all, a strong chord of faith has kept this church going and growing. Some may remember the “good old days” of 700+ in attendance, lots of small groups and Sunday Schools, and a staff to manage it all. God has been good to Green Trails!
And while there have been separations and renovations, there has also been inspiration and motivation. The motivation to keep on keeping on. The motivation to train children up in the way in which they should go. The motivation to exalt God, encourage all, and empower new generations!
And with each passing year, we remain thankful. Thankful for those founding members who formed the church. Thankful to the many pastors who have graced the pulpit. Thankful to the Sunday School teachers, youth and children’s leaders, small group leaders, and ministry leaders along the way. Thankful to church councils, leadership boards, and the nominations teams. Thankful to the UMW/UWF and UMM. Thankful for all the volunteers, staff, and each and every person who has come through the doors of UMCGT. And most of all, thankful to our God who has been with this church for 55 years! To God be the glory for the great things He has done!
Join us this Sunday as we culminate our anniversary celebration with worship that includes the choir, handbells, brass ensemble, and the All-Saints candle lighting ceremony! Then stay for dinner, prizes, pictures from days gone by, testimonies, and a hymn sing! Oh, and the preacher will be Rev. Dr. Antonio Settles, the Sr. Pastor of Union Memorial UMC, who will bring the message: Leave Your Mark! What a time we will have. I believe the saints will be smiling. And I hope to see you there! Happy Anniversary, Green Trails!
55 for 55 We’re halfway there! Our anniversary fundraising goal is $55,000 in honor of 55 years of faithful service and generosity. Whether it’s $5, $500, or some multiple of 5, no gift is too small (or too large!). There is a line for 55 Anniversary giving on our e-giving site, or you can write “Anniversary” on the memo line of your check. Let’s celebrate 55 for 55! The campaign will go to the end of the year.
WOW Bible Study! We have 2 new classes from which to choose – Lea Doyel leads a class on forgiveness, and Rod Harris is leading one based on outcasts in the book of Luke. Both classes will run for six weeks. Dinner is at 5:45p (potluck) and classes are from 6:30-7:30pm.
Stay in the Know! Don’t forget to pick up this month’s information at the Welcome Center or the Coffee Station. Just our way of helping you to stay in the know!
